SafeHaven's Education for
Non-Violence Program is designed to encourage both men and women
(separate classes are held according to gender) to learn new
behaviors and skills which will result in ending family violence.
Sessions include information and skills training in anger management,
effective communication, problem-solving and assertiveness versus
aggressive behavior. The 36-hour educational counseling program is
designed to stop abusive behavior.
This 18-week group program meets for a two-hour session once a
week. During these sessions, participants examine issues
related to domestic violence, ask questions and share the
perceptions and feelings concerning the current topics.
Groups are
facilitated by two counselors (usually one male and one female) and
consist of 6-12 participants. Through sharing and listening to
others, participants have the opportunity to develop higher
self-esteem and healthier self-images.
The program meets all
guidelines established by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice
and the Texas Council on Family Violence.
Participants must attend a
one-hour orientation prior to enrolling in classes. A $25 fee
is charged for orientation and for each class. |
